Foundation for dysphagia research and education [FDRE] is a working arm of the Society for swallowing disorders [SSD] registered as a charitable organisation under the Travancore Cochin charitable society act.

The foundation and the society mainly focuses on providing standard protocols of care in dysphagia, enhance and encourage research pertinent to dysphagia and its management We promote training programs and fellowships in subfields of deglutology.

Amrita Institute of medical sciences started a comprehensive dysphagia management program in 2013. Along with this university approved MSc program in Deglutolgy was initiated for the first time in the country. several academic events and exchange programs in relation with the activities of the department happened in connection with the course in which leaders in the field of deglutology from the country and abroad partipcted. The requirement of a national forum for interaction between the physicians and Deglutologist was a consensus opinion among all . This culminated in the genesis of the society and the foundation.
